Our History
The Heartwarming Story of Highland Kennel
We’re so excited to share that our family has grown! Rescue Ridge is proudly continuing the beautiful legacy of Highland Kennel. Just like Highland Kennel, we’ve always had an incredible passion for dogs and cats. Since 2002, Rescue Ridge has dedicated itself to saving, caring for, and providing medical attention to thousands of homeless animals, giving each one the love and support they deserve.
Now, Rescue Ridge at Highland Kennel marks a wonderful new chapter for us. This partnership allows us to expand our mission and create even more ways to help animals in need. Our goal is to grow Highland Kennel into a fully self-sustaining haven, where proceeds directly support homeless pets by providing them with proper veterinary care and a safe, comfortable place to stay until they find their forever families.
Our Beautiful Location
Nestled in a peaceful countryside setting on the border of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, our kennel offers the perfect environment for your pet to relax and feel at home. We’re just minutes from Wall, Jackson, Brick, Freehold, Manasquan, Toms River, and Lakewood, and easily accessible from the Parkway, Route 9, Route 195, and Squankum Road (Route 547).

At Highland Kennel, our mission is simple and heartfelt. We want every pet to feel as comfortable and loved as they do at home. Each furry guest enjoys a safe, clean, and stress-free stay surrounded by a caring and attentive team. Every staff member is carefully chosen for their experience, kindness, and true love for animals, ensuring your pet always receives gentle, personal attention.
Comfortable Accommodations
Every dog enjoys a private indoor and outdoor run designed for comfort and freedom. Pets who use a doggy door can come and go as they wish. Those who prefer structure are taken outside on a regular schedule throughout the day and evening. We never share runs or pair unfamiliar pets together. Each pet receives exactly the space and comfort their owner selected. Large runs are available for big dogs or multiple pets that enjoy staying together. Ask us about our special multi-dog discounts.
Cleanliness and Safety First
Clean, healthy surroundings are our top priority. Every run is sanitized daily and thoroughly disinfected between guests, then rinsed to perfection. A trained professional is on the property at all times, day and night, ensuring each pet’s safety, health, and happiness.
Feeding, Playtime, and Special Care
Mealtime at Highland Kennel is always something to look forward to. We feed twice a day and offer treats throughout the day based on your instructions. Puppies or pets who need extra nutrition are fed three times daily to help maintain healthy energy and blood sugar levels. Stainless steel bowls are used for every meal, ensuring cleanliness and quality. If your pet has special dietary needs, medication, or favorite foods, we will follow your directions carefully. We also include customized playtime and any extra attention your pet may need.
Our Requirements
For the health and safety of every pet in our care, all guests must be current on vaccinations. We are happy to recommend a trusted veterinarian if you need one.
